If the aspen is really strong smelling, is it okay to give to the gerbs? I thought the bad thing about red cedar was the aromatic oils -- so if the aspen really smells, isn't that the aromatic oils in it, and wouldn't that mean it is also bad for the critters? I haven't wanted to use the bag i have until i find out if it is okay for them. Very confused.

Hey Tasha, It's okay if it smells like a tree Great question. Many people associate smell with bad. It is not the oils that you are smelling in the Pine or the Cedar. I am sure they enhance the odor, but they are not the cause of the odor. Aspen should have a smell. As long as the bag says Aspen, it should be okay.
