(He's an indoor only kitty.) My mom suggested putting a blanket that smelled like us on the front porch and leaving the light on. I checked in the middle of the night, and there he was! Try to use the bedding she and Goat shared, even some fav toys, treats, etc. Might be a good idea to put water out too! Good luck! I know first hand (times 5) how upsetting it is to try to find an escapee! We've "lost" 2 treefrogs, one baby house gecko, 1 cat and one young corn snake over the last few years. Luckily, we found the gecko, the snake and the cat! Trying to find a 1/2 inch tree frog in a cluttered house sucks. I'll be thinking good thoughts for you and Nees!

good idea! I really hope you find her Devun. It really sucks losing a pet. Last night my dog went missing, and turned up at 6:00 in the morning. urgggggg Evil dog! ^You could buy a llive trap mouse trap, and her favourite treat. This may. YEs, water would be a good idea, but make sure the other house residents dont drink it up. Also food and bedding in the live trap may be helpful.

Hey Devun I am saddened at your loss . I sense that you are troubled by this and you want to do what's right for Goat. I would suggest getting a young female pup (from a breeder -you can find one on here or in Ags, or Ngs) to introduce her to. If it does not work, you could ask to take it back or exchange it for another one (that's why I suggested a breeder, they are more willing to allow this also pet stores may not always have young pups). Yes gerbils can live by themselves but they may not be happy. I am not sure that Nuerotic, stressed Goat could handle that. Or you for that matter. Keep us posted.

Yes, she hasn't let me pick her up since Nees left, so I guess she's upset. Do any of you guys live close to Ithaca, NY?

My boyfriend just found Nees outside dead, so now we know for sure. She'd been gone a long time. I'm not going to go look at her, I don't think. She was definitely a really smart, curious, friendly gerbil. I hate to have to get a new one because I feel like she was exceptional and would be difficult to replace. But I guess that's what I have to do, so if any of you know breeders in upstate new york, let me know.

I am so sorry Devun . I live in SC and would not mind a day trip but upstate NY might be a bit too far.

Oh Devun, I am so sorry to hear about Nees. I saw her picture in the photo contest and recognized how darling she was. When I found out she went missing, but then saw suggestions on finding her, I hoped. Sending you hugs...

I just took Goat out to say goodbye to her and buried her with a sunflower seed. Nees had such a beautiful coat! I was probably too hard on Goat in my first message. She can be very sweet once she finally lets you pick her up. She just gets scared more easily than Nees did, I guess. Anyway, I'll get a new friend for Goat today. Thanks for your comforting messages! I know Nees loved to explore, so hopefully she had some good times before she went too far... I can't believe she got throught that wire. I'm going to have to rethink my set-up.

I got my 3 sister pups from an excellent breeder in mid-NY. She is a member of American Gerbil Society. She cares a lot about her gerbils and socializes them early so that they are very friendly and confident. If it isn't too late, you should definitely contact her as you will probably have more success introducing than with a store-bought gerbil. Here is the website, and I'm pretty sure she said she had some pups who would be about 5-6 weeks now. Best of luck with it! www.gerbil-mania.comEmail Susan at Zanback@aol.com
