What stunning gerbils everyone has! But I was surprised that there were not more entrants. This was a good practice session for everyone who is entering the AGS Virtual Show, which is now accepting applicants! In fact you could probably use the same picture!
Heavenly Heart's Honeybear is a 3-year old female Spotted Nutmeg who appears to carry a lightening gene, possibly c(chm). She's in great shape for such an elderly lady, and only a slight lack of hair on her tail betrays her age. She has a medium build and a very even coat colour with minimal ticking evident, and expressive eyes. I like her orange point on her nose.
Ruth Harris' Genda is a 25-month old female Spotted Silver Nutmeg with very even ticking and a large white patch on her shoulders. She has a heavy build for a female, which is quite common for older ladies (I plead guilty myself). I bet she's lovely to hold! Her tail is good and thick but seems short. Unfortunately I could not see much in the frontal shot that was submitted. Better luck next time!
Anna Weyrauch's Mystery is a 7-month old lightly Mottled Black female with a nose stripe. Her coat is salt and pepper rather than showing distinct mottling, and it makes me wonder if she is a pied that carries schimmel. She has long whiskers, enigmatic big eyes, and a slightly spiral tail with not much tuft. Sweet girl though!
Amy Kent's Winston is a 14-month old male Spotted Nutmeg with classic nose, forehead, neck and tail spotting. He has very long whiskers and nice eyes, but ears a trifle rounded. A nice tail tuft. His coat is a beautiful shade and blends rather than contrasts with the background. Unfortunately a molt line keeps him from doing better this time.
Amy Kent's Wigga is an 11-month old Mottled Black male. His build is a bit slight for a male and he has light mottling which is in distinct patches--which is preferable to diffuse. His tail is good and long with a moderate tuft. He has long whiskers and a very interested expression.
Tracy Kukkonen's Nutmeg is a spotted, almost pied Argente Cream male. He has a nice broad face and almond shaped eyes, alert ears and a moderate build. His tail is good and long but I'd like to see more tuft. He does seem to be enjoying his almond!
Ruth Harris' Suna is a 25-month old Spotted Nutmeg female with fairly heavy ticking and long whiskers. Her build is a bit heavy for a female but we can again chalk it up to age. Her tail is nice and thick but not much in the way of a tuft. She has a very placid, calm expression.
Nicole B's Jupiter is a 9-month old male Mottled Slate or possibly Black. He has both diffuse white hairs and some white patches on his rump, which makes for a more interesting mottling effect. His eyes and ears seem a bit too rounded and he could be a bit more bulked up but he has great whiskers. I like his tail!
Tracy Kukkonen's Taro is a 5-month old Spotted Black male. What a cute pose! His head is well set into his body, which I expect will become heavier as he gets a bit older. He has beautiful ears and whiskers, but his eyes seem a bit round. His tail is long and has a good tuft, but there seems to be a very slight spiral to it. Lovely boy!
Third Placement:
Tracy Kukkonen's Mochi is a 1-year old Mottled Black male with one eye missing. In spite of that he is a strikingly mottled gerbil! I like! He has a very broad nose marking and collar, and although his tail seems a bit short it has a wonderful tuft. Very nicely photographed.
Second Placement:
Anna Weyrauch's Jack of Diamonds is a 6-month old pied Argente Cream male. He has very even light argente colouring, extremely long whiskers, nice eyes and ears and an enormous tuft on a good, long tail. His build is light for a male, but I expect it is due to his youth. More sunflower seeds for Jack!
First Placement:
Claudia Hung's Moo is a 10-month old Spotted Black gerbil with a nice round build. His coat is in great condition and very dark, a good contrast to his nicely symmetrical spots which are unstained. Very good eyes, ears and whiskers, and a lovely tuft though I would have preferred to see the tail straight. Awesome boy!
