any gg types are pretty rare, as are blacks with no white, and of course the new mutations discussed at egerbil.

I just bought a black eyed schimmel from a Petsmart in Illinois (Chicago Area). They buy their Gerbils from a company called Rainbow World Exotics in Hamilton, Texas. Unfortunately after googling them I found out there are a animal Mill type breeder. I bought 2 males from them one schimmel and one black. Unfortunately with in 3 days the black one died. This would explain why you are seeing them in Texas and I am seeing them in IL. I am hoping to find another one I can introduce to my male. Who seems pretty young. We will see he actually seems happier by himself now. Which is odd. At any rate I am mission to find another color I like in a younger male.

This may or may not apply to the Petsmart in your area but it was widely thought that this supplier supplied ALL Petsmarts, however many are supplied by wholesalers much closer, for instance the ones in the NW were, or are supplied by a wholesaler in Oregon.

Here in northwest Oregon, we basicly have aa, ee and sp, so I've seen black, agouti, nutmeg, DEH, and spotted black (I'd love to see a spotted Nutmeg!). Also I once saw this breeding pair that were like DEHs, but without the white belly? they had black eyes.

Everything is rare here (Ga, US) lol.
Most rare: Shimmel > honey cream > colorpoints
A dime a dozen: PEW, agouti, black, lilac, argent golden (spotted and non spotted varieties).
Medium: Nutmeg, Dark Eyed Honey

I have a female gerbil that's a dove gray & white, spotted with dark pink eyes. Her markings are perfect, and remind me of a border collie or husky. Is she rare? She stayed small, and has the largest poof on the tip of her tail in the tank of four. Adoribly cute.
Heres a Pic,
Jenna
My father got her for me from a petco in CT, I picked her out a year ago. i had never seen a gerbil with such beautiful marking before, and what a wonderful temperment, she's so friendly!
