It's best to get some of thelowerlower seeds out of the food if there is any and sweet corn If there is any as it can be used as treats. No, sunflower seeds are actually quite healthy. Sweet corn a bit less so. You'd only have problems if you were to give a gerbil food that was mostly/all sunny seeds. The whole point of the calculator is so you can figure out which ingredient ratios provide the right nutrient balance.

This is something I found a while ago, and modified slightly for what I needed. The original: waltonfeed.com/grain/calc.htmlIt's a spreadsheet designed to help calculate the nutrition information for a finished recipe, a day's worth of food, etc. I didn't need the RDA's and I really just wanted to know the protein and fat percentages, so I modified it slightly, making it great for finding the nutrition information for a homemade mix, a store-bought mix with add-ins, the staple food plus various treats, etc.. I don't claim any of it; the "gerbil version" could probably be improved a lot more, but I'm not so hot with spreadsheets. I just figured I'd share. (Version 1.5 additions) I looked up the recommended amounts of the various minerals/vitamins/etc. for gerbils, so the RDA's are now adjusted for our furry friends. I didn't need "male" and "female" RDA's, so they're now "Adult" and "Breeding" (breeding adults and young pups). And the biggest change: I figured out how to work conditional formulas, so it will now *tell* you if the mix is too low in a certain mineral/vitamin/etc. And it even tells you whether the protein and fat are too low, okay, or too high. *** Edit June 2010 Version 2 is done! MS Excel 2007: shootingstargerbils.com/GerbDiet_2010_old.xls MS Excel 2010: shootingstargerbils.com/GerbDiet_2010.xlxsInstructions: shootingstargerbils.com/GerbDiet_2-0_instructions.txtThis is great!! Just finishing up with dinner and parent / teacher conferences but I hopped on to this and started messing with the numbers and it's exactly what I need! I'll have to figure out in what quantities everything needs to be to be at optimal levels but at least now I can in a way I can wrap my head around. Thanks so much! Haven't had a chance to check out if this is the same as the other gerbil parents mentioned but I'll check them all out later to compare. Have to get a couple hours of work in! All these pets are expensive hahaha

Just keep in mind, it's not the best to bump older threads like this with new replies. The last post was in 2013

The last post was in 2013 This is one scenario where posting in an old thread is actually fine. The calculator is a current resource, so it's still great to hear what people like or dislike about it, or if there are any bugs. It's not quite like bumping an old discussion where the original issue has been resolved or is no longer relevant. It's also a pinned thread, so the new post doesn't truly bump it to the top of the board above newer threads-- it's already at the top. In this case, it's better to keep comments about the calculator on the pinned thread, even if it's older, rather than having multiple threads.

Ohh thanks, I didn't realize that about pinned/current threads!
