Gerbils going to the vet?..........

Hello evryone!I'm new and have a post in the new memberes area. So any way,do gerbils need to go to the vet?i've done reserch and people have said they do,and some have said they don't. If they do then how often?i've reserch in it but haven't really goton a stable answer.

haha!no i don't have any gerbils but might be geting some this summer.collies are just my favorite kind of dogs

Hi! Gerbils need to go to the vet only when they are sick or injured. They do not need yearly checkups or vaccinations like cats, dogs and ferrets do. That being said, it's still a good idea to give your gerbils regular health checks at home - just by learning what their normal behavior is, weighing them on occasion to make sure they haven't lost or gained any weight, and inspecting them visually for any abnormal lumps, bumps, discharge from the eyes or nose, etc. Definitely take them to the vet if you suspect anything is wrong - once sick, they can go downhill quickly.

Hey, I have taken my gerbs to the vet a couple of times this year. Once when I thought Cammie had a tumor but only turned out the be a wart, strange I know. Also, I took Pippin and Bailey to the vet when they had sore nose and allergies to the bedding they were on which was aspen. So to answer your question Gerbils do indeed go to the vet when they are ill. I have never brought them to get yearly exams though I do give them a health inspection twice a week checking eyes, nose, ears, scent glands, nails, teath, limbs, and for anything abnormal. I noticed your screen name is Callie101. Is that your Gerbils name? I have a gerbil named Calley lol.
