I've rubbed water from the bottle onto my finger and into his mouth and he's had a few sips from the bottle. I'm back at my own house now so I can't do anything til the morning. My dad has said that I'll have to take him to the vet tomorrow.
Can I just say that I'm not stupid and I already knew he needed fluids and I knew he neededto be kept warm too. I've been keeping gerbils since I was 18 and im 26 at the end of the month so please don't reply as if I'm a kid.
Unless you can give me some proper help then please don't reply. Saying he's ill, needs to see a vet and needs fluid is all stuff I ALREADY KNOW

Thanks tigerlily I do too. Im hoping it's an inner ear infection and that baytril fixes it cuz he seems alright besides the spinning and being a bit wobbly on his feet.

I'm sorry. The original question did not tip me off that you knew what was wrong with him. I don't mean to imply that you don't know what your doing with gerbils, just that you haven't experienced this before.
I hope he makes it, i really do.
I keep pedialyte singles (not sure what the UK version of that would be) on hand in case i ever have a declanning, sickness, or a water bottle that got chewed open. otherwise a sports drink would suffice in this situation. (power ade, gatorade, also don't know the uk version)

I'm at my mums and he just seems a bit wobbly this morning. I've given her Gerbs a chunk of cucumber and Huey has had some. He's sleeping in the log cabin so I think well see how he's doing over the weekend
Is there any other watery foods we can give him to keep his water in take up

Try any of these:
Apple, blueberry, strawberry, peas, broccoli, grapes, sweetcorn When I give mine peas, I use frozen ones, put 4 pieces in boiled water in a cup for a few minutes, then on paper towel open the skin and pop the peas out (they never eat the skin anyway) which is nice and juicey, can be mashed up as well.

He still seems a bit wobbly bit he's eating. I've made sure he's had cucumber all day. And I've given him a few cubes of cheese. There was a bit of poppadom left from lat nights tea so I crumbled some in and he's been munching it.
I've had the heatpad in the microwave and he's sat on it as I post this.

He's not wobbling anymore. He's running pretty much normally and acting normal but he just looks really tired, his eyes are open but not as wide as they'd usually be. He looks like someone who has been to bed but has woken up really early and looks shattered. My parents have put slices of pear in for the 3 of the gerbs to eat and when Huey comes out of the log cabin he has a good munch on them. I gave him some broccoli which he's been eating and I've seen him having a drink from the water bottle.
He never eats much anyway and has always been stick thin and frail looking but is there anyway I can fatten him up? I'm trying to give him anything at the minute to build his energy up and put some weight on. I'm wondering if I took a jar of peanut butter round to my parents tomorrow, wether he'd eat it or not - there's peanuts and sunflower seeds to the eyeballs in the tank but he doesn't seem that interested in them.

Have you managed to get him to a vet yet? I had been keeping gerbils for a long time and had had two in old age who had developed the dreaded ear infection, head tilt. Then when Starscream started to walk with a roll and tilt I took him to the vet and she prescribed the antibiotics for the same thing. After a few days he wasn't responding to them. They had to do a scan turned out he had a tumor in his ear. The antibiotics were useless so they gave him drugs to stop release the pressure and stop the swelling. I imagine your gerbil has got an ear infection as you have already said. I hope he gets better soon.

No we haven't taken him yet. He improved over 24 hours so we decided to see how he did over the weekend before we made any more decisions and he seems to just keep improving. I haven't seen him today yet but we're going to my parents for dinner later so I can see him then. I'm wondering if his brothers have laid on him because they're quite chunky little monsters and he's so frail. He likes to jam himself between them both to keep warm. Thanks for the well wishes I hope he gets better soon too. It's not the same with him leaping up the sofa trying to get into the hole in the head rest lol

Hey im new here and its my first time owning gerbils. i once had 2 gerbils named Marco and Polo. I adopted them from a pet store, because someone just came in and left em there. I had no clue what there age was and my parents say that if one gets sick we cant go to the vet cause its to much money. My smallest gerbil Marco, he was so small and cute and cuddly, but one sad day i watched him pass away... now all we have left is Polo. he was all jumpy and cray-cray and some-what viscous when u hold him. Now all he dose is sleep and when i gave him a bath today he is spinning, like 2 weeks ago, in circles going left. Ive read he has an ear infection, and to treat him right away but, my parents say we cant take him to that vet cause its too much money! im looking for anything eles u can find around the house to give him to help him but idk. Can u help?

I know, I know, I beg my mom to bring him to the vet, but she says nu. she says its a waist of money to take a small animal somewhere for 1000 dollars er something. im sad... and oops i gave him a water bath ( filled the sink with a little water, then took him out and dryed him and put him in his cage) also when he was wet i could see he was loosing fur. ok i will make a new post
