Korny and Burmy chewy my nail when I put my hand in the tank. I think it is a bit 'hi... Oh it's you!'

if its a soft bite they might think that it was like cardboard or a chew toy. look out for hard bites because that could be bad

it was only a soft bite.. he did bite me hard once, i was holding him and my friend wanted to take a picture of him but she forgot to turn off the flash and he got a fright and wanted to get out of my hand so he bit me. i forgave him and he forgave me ( after ALOT of sunflower seeds!)

I never realised how sore a real gerbil bite is. My three always nibble at my fingers and hands but one day I startled Mogey and she bit me properly and it was really deep and bled for ages. It was my fault it happened and thankfully it's never happened again

When your Gerbil bites you in a real mean matter, you will know about It! It hurts, it bleeds, you swear and your heart pumps faster! When they nibble you it is I think an identification 'handshake'. As they kiss each other, they recognise each other's taste. When they nibble your finger or/and nail I guess they taste you and it is a way of recognising you like If you were a gerbil and kissed you. Korny does groom me though on a regular basis. He aims my arm normally, and grooms just like he would groom another gerbil. It is very ticklish, can be unpleasant if he gets more thorough but I think It is a lovely affectionate behaviour. So gentle biting is a bit like a dog licking your hand, in my opinion.

;DYeah, My gerbils both nibble on my finger nails and its just a curiosity thing. Like a puppy chewing on furniture. Just a phase. usually it goes away, sometimes it really is just a way to tell its someone familiar Attachments:

They are being nasty, grumpy gerbils this morning! Mogey scratched at me when I changed her food, Mary pushed by my hand when I went to give her a good morning stroke and Fester won't even come out his bed. There is bedding and sawdust everywhere, tipped over food bowls, water bottles dislodged.......it's as if they have had a wild party when we were asleep
