I want to stomp over to that child and yank the poor gerbil out of his hands! Poor gerbil is terrified, too scared to get away.
If you look closely, the boy pins the gerbil down with his pinky. When the mom says "roll", the boy lifts his pinky and the poor gerbaby tries to get away.
That child was so smug, it makes me furious. And when he squeezed the gerbils head? Ugh!

www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYdv2dNL-wsWarning: you may not want to watch the video posted above. It's from the same idiot kid who I showed a video of earlier in this thread. Excuse my language but this **** is really starting to piss me off. The kid had access to the internet, he is pretty well spoken, and should know better. He should have enough information on how to care for animals. I'm sick of these morons treating animals like toys and where are the parents in this case? I want to notify authorities and get this resolved. I don't mean getting their youtube videos pulled or deleted. I mean, what avenue can you take to actually get animal control called on these dumb asses. I also recently saw some moron post a youtube video about how to train his hamster to be tame and go into his hand by dropping them in a sink of water so their only means of escape was to climb in his hand. I really want to get these assholes held legally responsible for stuff like this.

I admit that when I first got into gerbils, I was a bit clueless. At least I took the time to learn more about them, and care for them properly!
The kid in the first video - his facial expression creeps me out! The kid in the second video, he should know better. If you're old enough to have a pet, you should be old enough to care for it properly. This is why I believe young teens and children should not be allowed to have pets without proper parental supervision.

I have had pets since I was young and my 10 year old brother and I have more brains then these abusive people. I believe that people should have to do and present enough research to get a small pet ( ex: hamster gerbil mouse rat) they are NOT toys so I agree 100%.

I agree with Rexcalibur, beyond just being horrified by these videos, we should try to get actions taken. Can you tell if they're from the US by their accent? Can someone from there tell us about animal rights and laws in that country? I'm from Chile and I have no idea how the US works in terms of legislation, or where could we notify
On a side topic, some people comment (on youtube, not here) that we're almost worse people by talking bad of the kid, than the kid himself mistreating an animal. First, don't even get me started on animal rights and feelings, I'm vegan, but I know all of you gerbil lovers agree how these little creatures have feelings, it's so obvious since the first day if you own one! So, second: I study psychology (I'm near graduation already) and there are some very popular myths that are just f** lies. Children DO lie, children CAN manipulate, children CAN harm animals being aware of what they are doing and still deciding to do it, etc. (Of course I'm not talking about two-year-olds, and of course the MAJOR fault is from the stupid ****** mother, but please, let's cut the BS', the kid is old enough, he knows by experience the reaction of the gerbil is one of (at least) fear and discomfort, and he knows that fear and discomfort does not equal happiness).

He is just throwing them in together! They are not dogs! And it appears that he either keeps them in those tiny containers, or in those cardboard boxes. He is also using cedar bedding! I had gerbils when I was eleven and I did a TON of research and took really good care of my gerbils. It is not that hard!

I first got gerbils when I was 9, and I was a very responsible kid. My mother helped me take care of him, and he was very sweet. Until a kid that came over squeezed him. The kid had no feelings about it at all, never said sorry. After, my gerbil became solitary and violent, hurting me and biting, not out of being mean,it was OUT OF FEAR.
