Hello! I've had my gerbil for a few months now and today she has a very loose stool but I don't think it's severe diarrhea. She's moving fine and playing and eating. But I saw it once and I'm just worried. This is my first time owning a gerbil and I'm just very worried about her. I'm going to clean her cage out and see if it's just from a dirty cage. But I don't know what could be wrong...Anyone have any ideas?

Is it possible that you saw a a spot where she peed on top of her poo? My gerbils do that fairly often in their wheel and it can make it look loose.

^^ Red makes pee pee spin art in his wheel. It's lovely. -_-
If you're certain it's diarrhea I wouldn't take it lightly. Since gerbils don't drink as much as other animals because they're desert creatures it is very easy for them to get dehydrated, wipe out their little systems with the kidneys working hard and all that junk. So if it is diarrhea I would get her to the vet and see if you can fix it.
Doe she get a lot of fresh fruits and veggies? That's a big cause.

Thank you guys for responding!! I cleaned her cage out and waited overnight while monitoring her closely. It was a false alarm, thank goodness. I don't give them any fresh fruits or veggies yet since I'm paranoid that I'm gonna make her sick. She's much better now. :]
