Just wondering, would it be like if they ever got a cut? I used sudocream when Sam (the Guinea Pig) had a fight with Pip and we put sudo cream on his cuts but never heard for gerbils, hehe. Thankyou for your reply Kim XD xx

a tiny water dropper in case they need to be given water by hand if they are sick. and i've found that peanut butter is a great treat for a quick energy boost that has helped Dusty to perk up after his strokes. a heating pad is also something to keep on hand if the temperature gets too low.

I've only had smooth peanut butter in the house but i'm sure crunchy would work too. and someone with more experience could tell you if a syringe would work.

In the past I've definitely found syringes and cotton buds some of the most helpful tools when my boys got sick. I'm a big believer in sterile water (ie. boiled and allowed to cool) which I've used to clean sticky eyes, and can be mixed with a bit of rock salt to clean wounds. I work in healthcare so I'm lucky enough to have some little pods of wound wash (just sterile salt water) kept at the ready. But remember to use it sparingly and not get little gerbil too wet, as you don't want them to get cold if they may already be in shock from a fight/injury. The other thing I find useful is antiseptic wound powder, which is found in most pet shops and I suppose the same principle as Sudocrem. Finally I've got a little bit of leftover Metacam (painkiller) from a previous pet visit kept aside in case of emergencies. If you keep medicines aside though check you don't ever use doses in excess of what was suggested by the vet and only use them if they're still in date. If you have a spare hospital tank for the sick gerbil to rest in that's a big plus, or maybe keep a way to divide your tank at the ready. That way they have a bit of space to recover but aren't totally separated from their clan. When my Pip had an operation this was important so his brothers didn't bother his stitches. A heat mat is a very good idea, I need to get my hands on one of those! Check out this page on egerbil.com too: www.egerbil.com/firstaid.htmlx

I ordered some syringes off of viovet and we always have cotton bugs so thats a start i never really thought of using sterile salt water, i always thought it would be too strong for the gerbils or if they licked it, it may dehydrate them or leave a funny taste? Ooo i may have to invest in some antiseptic wound powder just as a stand by if i have no sudocream. Ah, thats a good idea ive never had to take the gerbils to the vets before luckily so i dont have any metacam but ive heard baytrill is good to keep? I dont have any but i just wondered? Im not quite sure what you use it for but thats just something ive heard? Ah a hospital tank is one thing i dont have. Ive been looking for one thats a good size and reasonable price but i cant seem to find a good one? Any suggestions? Arh, after you had to seperate them did you have to re-introduce them? aha. Yes, a heat mat does seem like a very good idea to have especially as its coming to Winter and such Thankyou for all your help! xxx
