newly cut down sycamore tree logs, can I make toys from them

Hi, So someone near me has just had there sycamore tree cut down and they have said I can have some of the logs from it to make some gerbils toys out of, so first question, is this safe? and second, any ideas on toys I could make from them?

Yes, i believe sycamore wood is okay for gerbils just make sure you sanitize it well :)Thats just what i have researched and read on xx
