Has anyone noticed or found a difference in the Carefresh, Natural bedding over the last month or so? We purchased a package a week ago and it seems to be more coarse and clumpier then before, we've been using it for over three years and it as been consistent.
There is no strange order or any other strange thing about it.

Additional:
Previously, when we opened the package the bedding would sort of just fall out. Now, it is packed very tightly and comes out in clumps - when it's in the tank you have to un-clump it by hand.

I haven't bought a new pack of it in a while but I did notice the other day that Carefresh has been changing their packaging design, while stores have been clearing out the packages with the old design. It's possible that they've also changed their formula a bit as well.

Can anyone recommend an alternative to Carefresh bedding or something that can be used with Carefresh, what about the Kaytee bedding products?

Kaytee Clean & Cozy is an excellent bedding, I used to use it with my gerbils and I use it with my hamsters. You can also use shredded paper, either the kind sold as Ecobed for pets, or the kind you buy online in bulk sold as office material.

Thanks for the recommendation - we have purchased a bag of the white Clean & Cozy, it seems to pretty much be shredded tissue paper very soft - almost too soft. Not sure if our Jenny likes it, she may be having trouble getting her footing due to it's softness. I've added some of the Carefresh on the top to see if there is any difference in how she maneuvers.

Update on Jenny and bedding (I'm SH's other half): The Kaytee bedding expands WAY beyond the "official" three times! We definitely overdid it and had to keep removing bedding, as it kept expanding as our little girl dug tunnels and hideaways!
We had the feeling that she was getting bogged down slightly, and overall didn't seem to be as active. It may just have been that it was new to her; if we'd used the softer bedding all along, she might be fine with it. Also, the constantly shifting texture and terrain, which changed as the bedding kept expanding, may have bothered her--which obviously was due to our inexperience with it.
It was suggested to SH that the white Carefresh is a little softer. Right now we have a little of the white mixed in with the brown Carefresh.
It seems that our small friends are individuals, and have their own bedding preferences.
