my gerbil dewy escaped earlier today my dad went into my room and said she was on the floor but he couldn't catch her he blocked the door up so she is still in my room what should i do (my dad said maybe catch and release mouse traps but i said "i don't know if those will be safe")

Yes a live trap would work or I've seen at Wal-Mart those tip traps which close up when the mouse runs toward the bait at the end. Are you back at home now? He may even come to you if you set down his favorite treats on the floor.

I had this problem the other day when one of my guys jumped of my bed, it took me 2 hours to catch him but in the end I got out he's treat box and and put it on the floor and he couldn't resist and I grabbed him when he came out to eat them.

i just caught him he was behind my desk and i got a shoebox and flushed him into it then got moved him 2 the cage

So glad you found Dewey! I've had several escapees and it's nerve wracking. Was he mad when you caught him? Mine always were, LOL
Most escaped gerbils will remain in the room where their tank is located. So, I went around the perimeter of the room plugging up any gap bigger than 1/2 inch with foam insulation spray. You don't want them getting into the walls or the heating vents.
I've taped several paper towel tubes together and coaxed them in with treats.
