My one gerbil Artemis, has decided that she no longer like sunflower or pumpkin seeds as treats. So I was looking for something reasonably priced and unsalted and found the only thing that meets that criteria at my grocery store are Soy nuts (she was never crazy for peanuts either). I just want to know if these are safe as treats to try to see if she likes them.
I don't know why she got tired of the sunflower/pumpkin seeds as their diet hasn't changed and she only got them a couple times a week and aside from this she is eating and acting normally.

Soy nuts are dry roasted soybeans. And yes, like peanuts, soybeans must be cooked or roasted before eaten.
I've given my gerbils the following as treats in addition to sunflower and pumpkin seeds.
Unsweetened multigrain cheerios - their current favorite treat Sliced or slivered almonds (dry roasted, unsalted) - another big hit Rice or wheat Chex cereal Unsweetened banana chips Crushed walnuts or pecans - expensive, but a small amount mixed in with other treats goes a long way.

Thanks for all the info, they've grown bored of the soynuts now. Picky little girls. They seem to like the bananna chips qtoffer recommended.....for the moment at least.
