Hi I am going to buy the Gerri Gerbil mix for my gerbils, however, I don't know whether it will need supplementing! It has a 17% protein content and 6% fat. Thanks, Julia

you could have some sunflower seeds or peanuts for treats. That would probably make up for the 1% fat. As far as the protein most people think that a bit higher protein doesn't harm them. I don't really think you should be concerned about these levels being off just a bit. You can easily just supplement via treats. I used Gerri Gerbil for my girls for the last 7 months and for the most part they loved all but the first two ingredients, I had to wait them out till they were desperate and willing to eat all of it before I refilled their bowl. It seems like everyone loves Gerri Gerbil and raves about it so I think it is a good choice for a lot of people. so this is off topic but I thought I'd add my two cents worth: I recently switched From Gerri Gerbil because the USA version that I received from petmountain.com contains a TON of chemicals and junk. I recently found that Petco, which is more local for me, carries Higgins Sunburst Gourmet Gerbil food. www.petco.com/product/120464/Higgins-Sunburst-Gourmet-Food-Mix-for-Hamsters-And-Gerbils.aspx It's levels are Crude Protein (Min.)….12.5%, Crude Fat (Min.)….8.0%. I like it because it doesn't have chemicals or added junk and my girls aren't so stubborn about not eating the less desirable bits. Gerbils will always eat their favorites first.

Gerri Gerbil is available more readily in the UK I have heard. It also may not contain all the added chemicals. The USA kinda sucks in this aspect because we allow all kinds of maybe not so great stuff to be added to pet foods. I think the UK may have better/stricter standards on what chemicals/preservatives are allowed in pet foods. Here is what zooplus has on their website for Gerri Gerbil ingredients: Ingredients: Wheat, corn flakes, soybean meal, oats, soy flakes, corn, peas, cereals, alfalfa meal, dried carrots, pumpkin seeds (3%), raisins (3%), extruded locust beans, soybean oil, salt, calcium carbonate. Additives: Colouring, vitamin A 9000 IU/kg, vitamin D3 1000 IU/kg, vitamin E 50 mg/kg, iron 50 mg/kg, iodine 0.8 mg/kg, copper 10 mg/kg, manganese 40 mg/kg, zinc 50 mg/kg, selenium 0.1 mg/kg. none of these additives are bad. Here is the discussion we had on BHT in USA Gerri Gerbil. gerbilforum.proboards.com/thread/28932/petmountain-online-store-sells-gerbilYou can always do a search on here for good UK foods. I am sure it has been discussed many times. cheers
