Did anybody hear about the new theory of gerbils and the bubonic plague? It sounds like there is little to no evidence to support the theory and someone is just trying to say something different to get attention. It doesn't matter to me either way, but I don't like to hear about gerbils being cast in a negative light. Actually, the whole thing sounds ridiculous - as if there were hoards of gerbils running around Europe at that time.

I haven't heard anything previously but that really does sound quite ridiculous, gerbils aren't exactly a common wild animal these parts. The thing is though it wasn't even like it was the rats either that caused it and we all see what happened to their reputation... What is it with people and hating on rodents??

I think that people are scared of having rodents for pets when they hear stories like people getting infected by Rat Bite Fever or getting Parasites from rodents.
Another reason why people are afraid of rodents is because they think that rodents could give them rabies.
