i noticed that since 2011 on the bottom with the most users online it seems we reached a plunge. Does anyone know why? The hamster forum is growing. I think we all need to spread the word of this forum!

I think gerbils have just become less common pets in general. I've noticed at my local store, the gerbils often sit for weeks on end without being bought, but the hamsters are gone within a day or two.

That's a very simple question to answer. People no longer use forums. Facebook groups are far more popular.

Moonstone, I agree with you on the facebook groups being much more popular. I have also found there to be a lot of international people on there which is fun.
My experience is that this forum is a much kinder, more informed, lovely place to get advice and share. I have found that some gerbil group facebook members (I'm part of 4 of the largest) are very defensive about putting their gerbils in very unsuitable super small cages, wire cages only with little or no digging room, and putting unsafe items in their gerbils cage (plastic, fabric, ect). Anyway it is sad that people don't want to hear very kindly put advice so I basically stay off of the facebook sites. I find that some of them are basically just oh here is a cute pic of my gerbil. Which is fine and all good but I prefer this forum, hands down.
Maybe facebook group users recruited and soclicited more people to this forum it would add memebers?

Leawhisp-. If I had my way I would have my own zoo with anything that needed rescuing so I hear you but the best thing you can do is just expose people to how great of a pet gerbils are. Then you can be an advocate and educate people about proper gerbil care.

I think it would really help to have a spiffy new layout, and maybe some more staff that were on more frequently. I've only just joined, but I've been lurking around this forum and I have not seen a lot of staff active.

I have to say I tend to forget about this place for long periods of time until something comes up and I think to come here to talk about it. =(

It's much easier to add pictures on Facebook, and you see it everyday without having to log in somewhere different, but I certainly prefer the info I get from here.

While I frequent some Facebook forums, I prefer this type when looking for answers to my gerbil questions.

Sorry for not responding after posting this awhile back I just got internet back after being with out it since I switched to comcast. That's disappointing as Facebook isn't as organized and some people just don't have a Facebook.

yeah, personally I really despise Facebook. If it wasn't for this place I'd be lost!

Maybe people on the gerbils forum should send private messages to the forum members that have not been on this forum in a few months.

Maybe people on the gerbils forum should send private messages to the forum members that have not been on this forum in a few months. Maybe, but that would be a lot of people, and they might just ignore it if they haven't been on for a while and think it's not important. Or, if they are like me, they won't know they got a message until the next time they get on, which could be more months.

If you are a part of facebook group, and if they allow it, you could always let people know about this group. People aren't necessarily aware that this forum exists as they use facebook and haven't thought that there is an alternative thing available.
I personally prefer this forum over facebook group, as often facebook group conversations get lost as so many people post new ones, whereas here it is easier to find them. (Quite often the search on fb isn't the greatest.)
