These are the ingredients: Potato starch, glycerin, powdered cellulose, lecithin, malt extract, yeast, colour added (malt extract, annatto extract, alfalfa extract). One of the Whimzees treats contains calcium carbonate, but I don't feed those. A while ago when I got my first guinea pigs, I discovered Whimzees dog treats. The pet shop said it's safe for guinea pigs, my piggies absolutely love them (I know better now though; pet shop advice can be so inaccurate). They also said it's fine for gerbils. However, upon finding out they are very unhealthy for guinea pigs, I'm wondering if it's okay for my gerbils? They love them, just like with my guinea pigs, but I will stop feeding the Whimzees if it's bad. Thanks. Edit: I apologise for my weirdly strung together sentences... I am very tired.

I only give my gerbils organic raw pumpkin seeds(2 per week), organic slow oats, veggies that are safe like carrots, sunnies in the shell and Martin apple dumpling treats(one per week and I bought a small sample sized bag)as treats, better to be safe than sorry, and both of my rescues are well rounded and healthy. I like to be safe rather than sorry with treats but that is me. Tammy

Yes they are safe but without any nutritional values whatsoever and I would take it away from them at night if they're eating too much of it.

Thanks! They don't seem to chew them a lot. And it's one Whimzee shared between 6 gerbils so I'm sure none of them are consuming too much at once. I think I will continue feeding them as occasional treats.
