I make my own food for my gerbils, and found a Craigslist ad for free spent grain, and was wondering if it would be safe to feed my gerbils. Thanks!

I had never heard of spent grain before!
So after a quick bit of reading, it would appear that people feed it to all sorts of animals, but no-one mentions gerbils specifically do they?
It is obviously high in fibre and low in nutrients though, so I wouldn't imagine you would want to feed too much of it anyway as it would unbalance your normal foods.
Not sure if it contains anything anti-gerbil either - so perhaps wait for some other replies before deciding. (I say this as some articles had warnings for hops in them - as they were worried it can be toxic for dogs - and I couldn't seem to find out EXACTLY what spent grains they were in the first place?).
