Hello, A little background: I introduced two brothers(~2 months old) to my lone gerbil(~6 month old) back in February. In early April, the brothers had to be separated from the older gerbil as he(older gerb) was chasing one of the brothers. I think I had two unsuccessful split-cage reintroductions before they were all finally completely okay together once again. I also added a second wheel and took out a second den that they had; I'm not sure if either of these actions helped. So now they're living happily in their 29 gallon and I saw a 10 gallon wire cage topper for sale in the classifieds. It looks like the black Ware brand topper, only it has just one ramp(no levels/no second ramp). I thought I could add levels and such so that's not really a problem. My concerns include: another little schism/declanning due to added space/new territories to claim, safely attaching it to the 29 gallon screen top, and.. cats. I keep their claws well-trimmed but I worry that a gerbil tail sticking out of a wire topper, for example, could prove to be too tempting of a toy for them. Otherwise, the gerbils have no fear of them and all parties seem to enjoy their daily interactions. Thoughts? Advice on attaching it? I'm also snagging(hopefully) a nice travel cage(we're moving) for the boys. They already have one but this one(hamster cage) should be more entertaining for them.
