Hi all just need some help when I manage to get a photo clear enough! I adopted a gerbil from p@home. Bloody manager told me its a boy Im sure its female. My uva two males have large noticeable testicles but my new one has none in site and its alot smaller bodied than my males , more lively . Its definatly adult so there would be noticeable testicles by now . Also the but hole and privates hole looks much closer together than the males.

PAH have done that to us twice. As a result we've had 2 litters of pups from the 2 'boys' we bought in the main store & very nearly introduced the 'boy' we took from the adoption centre to another boy. Thankfully, I checked 1st & 'he' is definitely a she!
From what you've said, it does sound as though you have yourself a girl there.

Yeah, if you can't see obvious testicles on an adult gerbil when you turn it over, it is almost certainly female...
Do you have a picture yet, just to be sure?

When she is on your hand just lift her tail slightly when you are 'behind' her and you will clearly see if she is a male. Especially if she is nice an warm from all this sunshine!
I promise you - you can't miss an adult males testicles...
If you look at your boys first this same way, then switch to her - you will know for sure by comparison. No pictures needed...

Someone else may have told them the sex and so they never bothered to check it themselves, but yes, you are right, how can someone sell an animal as one specific thing without checking.
Why don't they just sell them as unsexed in the first place... this would also make buyers aware of the potential for this uncertainty...

Another queston ...I have her caged alone because with her previous owner her sister died so she was brought into pets at home alone.is it ok to have her caged right next to my 2 very well bonded males? They sometimes touch noses through the bars.i just dont want there to be a fight over who gets the gitl kinda thing

Males and females in the same room don't normally have any problems as long as you don't directly swap stuff from the girl to the boys (the other way isn't such a problem as she has noone to squabble over it with).
I probably wouldn't suggest that they can touch noses as there could be a bit of a change in character of the boys (there might not be of course) but they may start to act differently as there is a 'girl' in the house. Gerbils aren't the same as people, they don't have friends or brothers, they have the urge to mate and sometimes that can upset things between existing pairs.
I might suggest putting up something between the tanks so they can't smell each other, but others may disagree and say see how it goes between the males over the next few weeks. Whatever you feel most comfortable with.
And depending on how old she is - there is no reason why she couldn't be split to another female or older male and have a friend of her own...
