It if it my last resort I'll go to petco or something, but where may I find a breeder in my area? (Crossville, AL) I have been looking and making several phone calls, and I can't seem to find anybody. I would rather buy or adopt than petco because what people say about the gerbils and their care though. But if it is saving them by buying from petco or something I won't mind. Any suggestions?

Sadly, just about all of my gerbils come from Petco as there are no breeders where I live. Though Petco isn't the worst pet store out there, it certainly isn't the best option if you can help it. Here's a list of breeders in the US: agsgerbils.org/Find/Breeders/Other than that, you can always adopt gerbils from somewhere like Petfinder or a local Humane Society.

Unfortunately, the southeastern US is kind of a gerbil dead zone. Has been for years, not really sure why. I'll be up in northern GA in November, but I don't know of anyone close to you. Do check local rescues and petfinder, though.

Check into any Petland stores nearby. Some are independently owned franchises. There is one near us that's owned by a fairly responsible family. They don't sell puppies or kittens, instead working with shelters and other agencies to adopt. They also have small animals including gerbils. The local family pet shop where we got Kate and Caroline (they source from a breeder in Houston) closed down, so that's probably where we'd go if we ever look for more gerbils. Unfortunately there are no breeders in the Dallas TX area either.

You could also check craigslist, etc, to see whether or not people are trying to rehome gerbils in your area. I'm not sure how often this happens in the US, but in the UK I have seen quite frequently people trying to rehome their gerbils.

I found this Craigslist post. Not super close to you but maybe close enough, perhaps they'll meet you half way. The specific gerbils they posted are likely gone but by the sound of the post I'd guess they are breeders: bham.craigslist.org/pet/5094723648.html
