I have two gerbils and am keeping them in two critter trail cages connected by a tube, I am going to make them a bin cage soon and am wondering if the space I am keeping them in is sutible?

Yeah I agree with Jumpyspeedyrule, critter trail cages aren't ideal for gerbils whether you are keeping them in long term or short term. Really you should only keep your gerbils in a large bin cage with ventilation, a large tank that is over the minimum for your country, or a Gerbilarium that is large and spacious with plenty of room for toys, chews, multiple gerbils etc. so critter trails aren't exactly ideal the same as ovo's aren't ideal. Hope I have helped and answered your question. PetMad15

Wait. Do country's have minimum tank sizes? Does this apply to US? Generally, different countries have different minimum cage sizes but it does depend where in the world you live to what your countries minimum size is. Yes I think The US have a minimum size but because I live in the UK I am not really sure what your countries minimum size is. I have found a website in which should help you on what your country's minimum size is. I believe the UK is 100 x 40 x 40 but I may be wrong. Here is the website I found which may be useful and helpful to you: www.egerbil.com/housing.htmlHope I Helped PetMad15

Quite a lot of people go for minimum 60cm by 40cm for a pair of gerbils. However, Blue Cross Animal Charity recommends floor surface of 75cm by 40cms for a pair, and as my two boys live in a similar sized cage, that is the minimum that I personally recommend. Once I have put their hidey house, and their toys in, they don't have too much space left to dig and run around. And as gerbils love to dig and make tunnels, I think we should try to provide them as much space as possible.
In the US the minimum seems to be 5 gallons per gerbil, when it comes to tanks. However, most experienced owners recommend 10 gallons per gerbil.
If you have the space for it, Ikea Detolf would be a great setup to go for, and it is relatively cheap compared to tanks, etc, you might find in pet shops. However, you can find cheap 2nd hand fish tanks on craigslist, ebay, facebook, etc.
