Hi guys so I had second litter of pups on September 16 they were growing fast and seemed very very healthy, I had four albino (three females and one male) and two brown (both females). It was about the time when eyes started opening that I noticed one baby had diarrhea I made vet appt has early has possible but I found the poor baby on a Saturday and had to wait until Monday to get the appt and my vet was all booked up so I couldn't get the babies in until Thursday. I could tell right away the babies were fighting upper respiratory has well and the one with diarrhea was losing weight I saddly lost her Wednesday night and one other baby looked like she was ready to go as well but I started steam treatment with him twice for about 5mins and did the rest with the other babies and then I had him sniff some vic's for about a min just to clear his airways and he seemed to be doing a lot better; so I let him rest the night and he seemed to be pulling through. We rushed the remaining five babies to the vet and the two brown ones are doing fantastic no URI and are both 15 and 17 ounces ( I was giving medication just in case they started showing signs) Now the white ones are in very bad conditions my little male is at 8 ounces being the smallest well the other two are at 9 and 10 ounces. The 9 ounce is doing the worst she is having the hardest time breathing and was extremely dehydrated. They started with IV fluids under the skin and I was giving a nutrition packet to mix with KMR and to give every 3-4 hours to help build strength!
Now here's where I am struggling- the vet recommend that when I removed my weaned babies from my other litter next week I also should consider removing the two brown ones from this litter and leaving the three white is for another two or three weeks. They will only be 4 weeks old but she doesn't think Ebony the mother is producing enough milk for the entire litter (she's pretty heavily pregnant again and is a younger mother + first time mom-poor girl) and the two are being very greedy. I don't want to jeopardize their growth but I also don't want to lose the other three. I am trapped between a rock and hard place right now and don't know what I should do plus I am keeping the two brown females and little male and wanted to keep the brown ones with their mom for a but one being a permanent buddy and removing them will make introducing them hard and helping out mom even harder once dad is removed. Maybe I can split cage the two brown ones so they can still see mom and dad? or just take them out for a few hours a day. Anyone have any ideas or input on the situation?
