Hi, wasn't sure whether to post in general or guest board as my account is not yet activated so hope here is ok. I am hoping to get 2 or 3 gerbils in the next few days but I have never had before (only had hamsters and rabbits) so was hoping I could upload a few photos here and ask peoples opinions. I am not sure if the sawdust is quite deep enough for burrowing etc and I have been struggling a bit with the layout and getting everything to fit in! It is 75 x 45 x 37 cm, do you think 3 gerbils or would 2 would be better for space etc? There is not a water bottle in there at the moment but there will be either a free standing one or a suction cup one. Thank you for any advice you can give

what kind of shavings are you using? also, the wheel, and what brand is the wheel? if it isn't very thick, the gerbils may chew on it which isn't good for them. not sure also about how you connected the wood bridge, have to be careful they can't get pinched or a foot caught. I use a wire wheel that is made for gerbils(not the old style with wide bars). the rest looks great and lots of space. also, it won't look like this for long, gerbils really love to move and make things how THEY want, lol but that is fun to see what they do.

Thank you for replying catnut.
I have pets at home woodshavings, it says suitable for gerbils on the packet. There isn't really anywhere else near me that does big enough packets. The wheel is Savic, it doesn't seem too thin but I will keep an eye out for chewing etc. Do you mean the bridge that is the same colour wood as the houses? If so I think the bit where it connects is too small to get caught in etc so should be ok, again I will keep an eye out though and if I get worried I will remove it. Will have to get more chew toys etc as well but there is always toilet roll tubes in the meantime!

you could also just use the bridge in a playpen and not in their full time cage, that way you can watch if it is 100% safe. I'm in Canada so not sure about pets at home gerbil bedding. wood chew sticks are good, best if not coloured if you can get them, the more natural the better, and tubes or thin cardboard boxes ripped up(I take off the glued parts, just make sure not very thick or has a coating on them. Have fun when you get your gerbils, I've had many over the years and they are a lot of fun with their own personalities. Tammy
