To simplify, I have a research paper due next week in my Biology class discussing the evolution of a present-day species, and I've decided to do it on gerbils (for both the easy comparison to modern-day Mongolian gerbils that I have personal experience with, and my satisfied interest in wanting to learn more about them).
Our outlines for the paper are due tomorrow, however, and while I was browsing online for information I couldn't seem to find any resources discussing their evolution, nevermind reliable or in-depth ones at that. So I was hoping I could have some help! Does anyone here have any information/resources I could look into?
If I don't have enough information gathered within a few hours (I'll keep looking on my own, believe me, I'm not trying to have other people do all the work!) then I'll change the topic species. But regardless, I would still love to learn more about them and their evolution. So any replies would be wonderful.
Note: My teacher would prefer I use scientific journal articles, government websites, university websites etc. as they are reliable references, but she usually isn't too picky, so anything really works so long as it's credible. The only big no-no is, of course, Wikipedia.

What a great topic for your paper - although I don't know any such documentation off hand myself, but I have listed a few ideas below incase you haven't already tried them:
Google Scholar online has many rodent papers for sure - or perhaps the American Gerbil Society website as they may have some links? I am sure you have already looked through loads of gerbil authority websites for possible citations about such things (some websites are better than others of course) - and it is possible that there are snippets all over the place hiding in other rodent research papers - so do look at info on rats and mice etc too as some of these reports could be cross referenced.
Is there a university or two around the world who specialise in rodent evolution, or who work with gerbils in their institutions where you could find some links and data?
I do have a friend in such fields who may have some info - so I will message him right now and see if he has any ideas for links.
Hope you have managed to find some yourself so this great project can go ahead...
