Like any pet owner, whether it be dog, cat, rabbit, gerbil, etc, an animal will get a hold of something they shouldn't. This little story is exactly as the title sounds. One quick gerbil, two frantic humans, and a single chocolate chip!
Two of my boys Leo and Milo were exploring on the sofa while I was fixing their tank and a friend I had over was playing with them. All of a sudden Leo pops his head up holding something in his mouth. My friend asks if I left seeds or something on the sofa. Within a moment we both noticed somehow he had gotten a chocolate chip. To this day I don't know why or how a single chocolate chip got on my sofa (and I deep cleaned that sofa after and found nothing). I gently try to take it from him but he won't let it go. When it comes to Leo he is the tied with his brother Milo for number 1 sweetest gerbil but when it comes to food there is nothing he'll give it up for. With that he darts away only to shimmy down a blanket draped over the side of the sofa to the floor. The two of us spent well over twenty minutes sliding across the room chasing a gerbil and keeping him from eating the chocolate. The moments we did corner him he'd always begin trying to eat it quickly as if he knew. Finally I took a thin sheet and threw it over him managing to get him to stop. Thankfully in his confusion he dropped the barely nibbled chocolate as well. Though, the moment he let go he tried to make a dart back for it had I not got it first. Tired yet victorious, I got the boys back in their tank (his brother Milo fell asleep on the sofa while we chased his brother around). Leo seemed to have enjoyed himself at least as he was passing all day after to come out again.
