I might have a solution. I'm going to retame them, I'm going to wash my hands every time because I'm trying to get my scent off again. I'm going to do everything the same except do the taming process a bit faster. I'm not going to pick them up today or tomorrow. I'll update you on how it goes.

Quick Update, they are quickly warming up to me, Alfredo just voluntarily stood on my hand for the first time in months, and Julio put both front paws on my hand and I'm feeling pretty good. I'm going to put them in the bathtub tomorrow and see how that goes. Anyways I'm doing a lot better and so are the gerbs (also I put their old wheel back in).

Great news, And sounds like a good solution if it's working! I did also see your tic, looks like you've deleted it now which is fine. I just want to say that it isn't your fault that you're hurting them because it's not something that's easy to control at all so you don't need to be embarrassed about it. I'm sure with a continuation of the taming process, they'll warm up to you eventually. Best of luck

I'm pleased it's going well yuzernameWe all have struggles with taming as it were. I think it's just that they are so busy and inquisitive they haven't got time for the cuddles that we'd all like. They usually get better at this as they get older. How old are Alfredo and Julio?

I've picked them up a few times today to give them treats and I actually forgot to do the thing but the tic just kind of went away. It's kind of confusing but I'll take it. If it comes back at least I know how to stop it so I guess that's pretty good.

Thats great news. At least you know you have a number of options should the tic return. Plus you know that your gerbils have still got trust in you so hopefully next time it won't be such a worry.
