Hyia guys, I have a cage (temporarily house) on the way for the first litter, they be 5wks tomorrow and I am not sure they can be separated from the parents. This morning the second litter was born and the litter is bigger (7) this time.
I want to is too young to take the first litter out? The dad as been removed and hopefully I avoided a third one as I never had another litter born this early before. So these two are strangest pair I had.
The first litter pups are eating and drinking. But I am worried 5wks is far too young
Thank you

I don't think 5wks sounds unreasonable, but 6wks is better. They won't breed until around 8wks.

I keep them in until 6wks, if mum gets too stress with them there I would remove them. I wasn't comfortable with taking them out now.
Thank you

If you are taking any out (already planned for future clans) to go in with the dad - then 5 weeks or just over is fine.
As long as they are a good weight (near or over 35g) they will be weaned (and should be eating and everything) so it doesn't matter which parent they are with. They can both teach them the gerbil rules so it doesn't matter. Dad just has more free time so he can be a better option for most split litters.
So work out who of the pups you are keeping and who you are homing and split up accordingly so everyone who is going to stay together stays together for now.

Hyia,
They are all eating and drinking perfectly well. They take seeds from hand and climb over hand and try to run through my sleeve.
The two girls are going with my sister, I love my little boys so much and decided to keep them. They personally are so sweet and I can't part with them.
The second litter are 8 so far.
Since they with the parents I moved them with dad for now, leaving mum alone in peace as she didn't want them near her. Dad accepted the kids was happy to have them. Just waiting for their cage to come Monday.
New photos if the second litter will come next week
I am annoyed as I wanted to clean the tank out before this was born Rowena void my plans again lol
