Do males ever drop a little weight due to the stresses of breeding? It's this normal or worrisome to see a loss of 5-10 grams?

Males don't usually drop weight with all the extra food being offered in the breeding enclosure - so I would be certainly cautious here.
There is the chance that mum is much more dominant than usual and so is making him stay out of the way and wait his turn for things - this could be causing him stress - or he may well just be hiding to stay out of her way?
Certainly have daily weigh ins - and offer him food seperately when you can.
Is he staying in with a female for much longer?

Just an update. I think the female was overbearing. He hid a lot and was timid. He's with a new female now, a younger one who is nice to him, and has been maintaining weight. Poor guy was being bullied by a neurotic woman lol

Female gerbils run the family - what they say goes!
Bless him...
