So this is kind of a spin on the 'What do you look like' game, but I think it's really fun to get to know each other, so I thought I might put an addition to the theme Most people on the forum probably have gerbils, but I thought it might be fun to see what other pets we have. (And maybe link photos ) I'll start! I live on fairly large acreage, so I have quite a few pets... I have five cats. Their favorite hobby is sleeping in the sink and leaving mice on me while I sleep. Their names are: Enoki, Morel, Magnus, Teacakes, and Orchid. I also have a dog. His name is Japa, and he's a 120 lb Doberman. He scares people half to death because he gets too excited when he sees them, and grins until his whole mouths resembles a snarl. Then there's the guinea pig. He's completely hairless beyond a patch a shoe brush bristles on his nose and ears. He loves to eat carrots, chew fingers, and scream in the wee hours of the night, which he does if he sees a cat (he loves the cats, and screams out of excitement.) His name is Soup. And then, of course, there's the gerbils. Their names are *deep breath* Skittle, Keefe, Patrick, Sesame, Egburt, WD40, Oji, Zit, D'babe, D'man, and Frank Jr. Jr. Jr. So gerbil-wise, I'm pretty maxed out. Don't worry, I love them all, and handle them on a daily basis Of course, they all have personalities and pictures, but I'm afraid that would make this post about a mile long. Here are the pictures! This is Orchid This is Magnus after a bath... that was definitely needed, and I won't tell you why This is Morel This is Teacakes. He's my baby (He had to nurse from my hand when he was kitten, since he couldn't eat on his own for a long time). This is Enoki, our beautiful giant This is Japa, our Doberman This, last but not least, is Soup. Not the clearest picture, but definitly the cutest

I have a cat called Lola Not sure if images will show up! She’s best friends with her half sister from another litter who lives next door! She’s about 2 years old but still acts like a kitten, and is the most picky cat I’ve ever met. She likes attacking plants for some reason! This is Ziggy!

Hmm... the images don't seem to be showing up. I wonder why, Imgbb usually gets it right. Unfortunately, Enoki was hit by a car today. we saw a post online asking for the owner. By the time we called the vet he had passed from his injuries. So now only four cats.

So sorry about Enoki! We have two cats and two dogs and two gerbils and one Leopard Gecko. I don't have any pics of the gecko, but here are our pets below. We have our daughter and her two kids living with us and the cats and one dog are my daughters, the gecko is my grandson's and the gerbils and one dog is mine. The cats are Beni, who was a rescue from the Humane Society. He had been hit by a car and had to have a back leg removed and some teeth. He is 8 years old. The other cat is Millie, she is a 7 month old kitten from the Humane Society. She replaced a black cat we had named Cougar, who got hit by a car last September. Beni is so old now he is a grumpy old man and wants to be left alone. Millie is an energetic kitty and wants to play all the time. Our dogs are a pit bull/poodle mix named Shatter. We did not name her. We got her from someone who needed to re home her after moving to Phoenix. She is a very well trained and loving dog. She is 5 years old and is a therapy dog for my grandkids who are autistic. Then there is Wicket my Shih Tzu who is the wild and crazy energetic pup. He will be a year old tomorrow! The gerbils are Cream Puff and Coco Puff. We got them last June. I will try to post pictures. Sorry the pics are so big...I need to learn how to resize them. This is Millie This is Wicket This is Beni This is Shatter This is a picture of Cream Puff and Coco Puff

He was like a big grey teddy bear, with the softest fur. He just loved being cuddled, such a gentle giant. We really miss him. Wow, conniew , your pets seem great! Wicket seems like quite a character, and Beni sounds like such a survivor! Millie is really beautiful, and of course Cream Puff and Coco Puff are naturally awesome!

Thanks, TJ's Rodent Ranch, over my lifetime I have had many different pets from horses to mice. Gerbils are my favorite rodent. I don't do spiders or snakes. LOL! I thought I didn't like reptiles either, but the Leopard gecko is very easy to care for and no trouble at all. Not a hold and pet kind of pet, but very interesting to watch when you feed them. Wicket is a rascal for sure. He is one year old tomorrow and still very much a wild puppy. I am working on training him but at my age that goes very slowly.

My only pets are gerbils, I love cats and dogs, but cats are too destructive to the house and I can't have a dog. I am tempted to have a rabbit (I love them!), but I'm not sure how destructive they are (when they're out of the cage, which I would let one out when I'm in). As a young boy/lad we had some rabbits, gerbils and I had a couple of Hamsters.
My previous boys Avon and Blake
My current boys Gan and Vila (who btw are distant cousins of Avon and Blake)

Wow, that's really cool that they're distantly related. Did you figure that out, or did you know someone who was aware of their bloodlines? I know someone who has rabbits. She's told me that they're awesome, although occasionally re-arrange her furniture and chew through her walls. I didn't know quite what to do with that, so I suppose take from it what you like, lol. I've never had hamsters, although I'm deeply considering it. There's a trio of hamsters in a nearby petstore, who are all extremely friendly and lovely. I have considered it, but I don't know if I should since I already have a ridiculous amount of gerbils. Also, Catastrophic, the photos are now showing up.

I bought them from the same breeder I got Avon and Blake from, and I asked her if they were related. She told me re Gan and Vila "Their great grandad is Fudges grandad's brother" Their great grandad was called Toby, Fudge was Avon and Blake's father.
I still haven't worked out what that means as to G & V's relationship to B & A, it's rather a long winded description! lol Perhaps I can here with peoples help? lol So grandad's brother means that Toby was Fudges grand uncle, right? Which means.....

Yea same, there's no way I could keep that much info in my head! And I came up with the same family tree. So their last common ancestors were their great-great-grandparents, using this site confirms what you said, they are 3rd cousins, thanks for that! The only thing that doesn't make sense to me is that G&V are the same number of generations down the tree, yet B&A were born ~2.5 yrs earlier. But I suppose that could happen if B&As parents and grandparents had litters young, and G&Vs parents and grandparents had litters at an older age?

I thought it was unusual too that they were of the same generation. But it could happen as you describe, especially since the family tree involves male gerbils who could have a litter at any age, unlike females.

Wow, that is a bit too much to keep track of without a diagram. I was about to draw one, but figured that the problem had been sufficiently solved. What Markpd said seems most likely to me, that B&A's parents just had their litter earlier. It's probably one of the only ways to explain that, as it is.
