And I was on the way to the local Tesco express on my bike. I took a short cut through the housing estate and on a patch of grass under a tree I spotted a young cat playing with something. Me being me had to investigate, I couldn't believe it it wasn't a mouse as I had thought but a young black gerbil. She was very cold and wet and had some fur missing on her tum and a few spots of blood. I picked her up and took her home not knowing if she would survive the journey back in my coat pocket. She did and is know living happily in the lap of gerbil luxury and is now called Sqeak. ;D

Yeah, me too, that's a lovely story. There seem to be quite a few people on this forum who have had similar experiences in 'acquiring' gerbs! D'you think she was let out in to the wild (grrr) by uncaring owners, or that she escaped? I guess we'll never know... too bad you can't ask her!

aww... Squeak was meant to be saved and happy you listened Probably the cat was in house with the gerbil and got it and took it outside, wasn't hungry just wanted to play, I don't like cats and gerbils in the same house because this can happen. I had my sons cat for awhile he said he would be back for her in a few days while they moved. It ended up to be 2 months and it was the longesy 2 months I was constantly on gaurd, and the gerbils all of them 18 were in my room for safety. Well the cat would get in every chance she got and head straight for them (gerbils) and freaked them out, all of a sudden the room started thumping they were so scared. I demanded that my son come and get her and he did. Now all is well around here
