Yup, normally if they haven't been out in a while they'll poo and wee everywhere, I think some of it is nerves as once they've checked out their surroundings , they're fine.

I would play with her, but she has a hurty nose.

A hurty nose? How did that happen? It could be an allergic reaction to something, what bedding are you keeping your gerbils on? Does she have a friend?

I find younger gerbils poop the most when they are out. As they get older they tend to not poop everywhere as much (thank goodness). Though I did have an adopted male for a little while who was about a eyar old or so, and he always pooped on me! Out of my 16 (and the other 3 i've previously owned) none of my mature gerbils poop on me. (Though I have 1 female who always marks me... yuck).

It depends on how much they have toilet trained themselves. I find that female ones useally don't cos they find pooping on they human too embarrising and bad mannors, but with the males, some don't and others don't understand about it being bad mannors. They don't wee on me though.

Yeah, they have to get used to you and being out on your shoulder or arms. Like the others said, it depends on their age, and wether or not they feel scared or excited even. It's normal - my oldest female doesn't do it at all and the next oldest does but just a little and not every time. And, always clean up the poop with a tissue and WASH YOUR HANDS...and your clothes...avoid any possible contamination.

Mine are somewhat "toilet trained" (they have a specific corner of their tank that they use, which makes cleaning the tank sooo much easier), so they've got some control... so, no, they've never had an "accident" on me. I agree with everyone else, though, that it depends on the age, gender, and temperment of the gerbil.

At one point I had 21 gerbils... and I've only ever had one pee on me ONCE, and it was when I worked at PetSmart. I was playing with them on my lunch! lol Go figure. Poo is another story, but I noticed that the more attention they get from me, the less they poo on me
