Hi everyone It comes to my attention that some of you do not use word association with your gerbies For instance, if I say Daisy 'SEED' she'll come and get one ;D If I say 'COMING OUT / COMING UP' they will both come up to the top of the tank Obviously a strong 'NO' is needed accaisonally as well They also seem to pay attention to their names when called James (our son) enjoys mimicking their actions too eg. He winks they will nearly always wink back When they sit up and rub their noses with both paws - James does the same and it seems again they do it back When they are making mouth movements and twitching their noses (James thinks their talking) and he does it back, they again seem to respond by doing it back! Is it just me, or am I certifiable ! ;D Perhaps I spend too much time on my own! (hubby at work, son at school etc.) I am lucky in that I do not work, so I am at home most of the time. I'd like to know if you all communicate with your gerbies and what results you get! Interesting eh... LOL Caroline

my gerbs never want to wink back at me. though they probably think im the one whos weird, what with my sitting in front of the cage winking at them. ive always talked to them, sort of as a way to let out stress. for example, by telling them about homework problems and annoying teachers etc. they dont really seem to listen but on ocasion they'll come out of a hidey hole or something to see whats going on. anyways thats most of my gerbil comunication

I communicate with my cats sometimes They also seem to listen! One of our cats, Gracie, used to have a wooden bed that used to be a dolls bed. Whenever we said "Gracie it's time for bed!" She would go over to her bed and go to sleep I don't know how she knew what we were talking about though All of the cats will come when I say come. But that is quite normal, I think. I have never tried the I do something the cat copies me, I doubt that would work for our cats. Caz it's really cool that your gerbil copies other people! Megan

I think Eugene is too dim lol.
He does seem to listen is someone new comes in the room when he is in his playpen but thats it.
I will try the mimicking thing and see what happens.

You can but try Dawn! I'm sure Eugene is not dim, if anything he'll be lapping up all your attention, so he might be even more reseptive than a group of gerbies See what happens... LOL Caroline

Well, it's still happening! I must admit the word 'SEED' seems to work best! Does anyone else have any favourite words they use and get a response from?LOL Caroline
