I have 4 male gerbils. I bought them all together from the same cage at the same time. They lived happily together for over a year. Now the Black one (Koal) is fighting with the brown one (Hercules). Koal leaves the other two gerbils alone. He just goes after Hercules ( and vise versa). I separated Koal from the rest of the clan, and all is well. What to do with Koal? I fell bad that he has to live alone. Would he get along with a new gerbil? Or is he destined to live alone? Would it be possible for him to go back with the others?

If you put him back, you will most likey have a bad fight between the two. I know from experiance I would take one of the other males he gets along with and keep 2 tanks of pairs. This way everyone happy. A pair is much easier to care for then larger groups I find, as they tend to have more problems the more gerbils there are. Good luck with them all, and keep us posted.

How big is the tank? How did you want to divide it? A permenent split cage can be done. I've personally never done one with more then 2 gerbils on each side, so i'm not sure how that works. I wouldn't think it wouldn't be a big deal as long as they have enough room and cannot get to one another.

I think's 35-40gal. I was thinking a glass divider, with 2 gerbils on each side.
