I told you guys a few weeks ago that my gerbil girl mother of 4 female pups was attacked by her daughter. Now i separated her and one of her daughters. Later I said that I was afraid that the aggressive daughter would get bored and would start attack her sisters. Well it happened. This morning I noticed my little Grey gerbil looked scared of her big sister(dominant female). The dominant one (Tosca) was running after her little sister (Youssarian) and Youss behaved weird. Now I came back from school and I see them fighting (well Tosca attacked Youss)I picked Youss up (she had a little epileptic attack) and after that she was quite dizzy so i putted her back in the cage. Bam Tosca just attacked her out of nowhere. I was able tog pick Tosca up and she's now alone. What do i have to do now? Can i leave Tosca alone because she's so dominant or should I try to introduce her tonight again? Hope you "experts" can help (i'm just a gerbil rookie)

Some females are extremely dominant. Because of the problems of tank life less dominant females cannot give them enough space so they are best kept alone. Given lots of attention and stimulation they can lead happy lives.

I agree with Doom. I have a overly Dominant female who has to live alone. I have tryed to re-inrto her but no success. She could probably live with a male, but there's now way i would want to breed this kind of aggression into more animals. I have her tank situated beside two others, so she can see the other gerbils. I also give her alot of out of the tank time, an of course many toys. This is my second female like this. Though alone she has a nice clean coat, is active and friendly. So it obvious she's not worried about having a friend.

Well now a positive thing happened. I had one other gerbil who lived alone for a few days because her mum is gone.(my cat opened the tubes that connected to cages, she ran away and i haven't seen/heard her since that, almost one week) Now i putted them together and they are great together, in the beginning they were running after each other but my little girl is a brave one and although she's much smaller she's being dominant opposite the usually dominant female. I do keep an eye on them for a while

First don't give up on mum, she may still be around. Put card tubes or boxes down with food, tissue and one small entrance, check often and you may well find her curled up in one asleep!! Congrats on the intro, happiness for now at least. Obviously be aware of the dominance issues and as the little one grows up keep an eye open. Hopefully peace will reign.

Well being enthusiastic to soon. They kept running after each other, the dominant female now was scared of her little sister. today I tried to put the little girl(Mozart) in the cage of her little sisters (Youssarian and Shakespeare) i thought she was accepted but now she was scared. (gerbils are soooo complicated ) Now I only have 1 option left hope this will work out.

Yes they are, the mother and ex-dominant female was Flower. OK I now have 3 cages and 4 gerbils. Tosca (quite dominant) Mozart( Brave and a bit dominant) Shakespeare (Likes everyone) Youssarian (Afraid of Tosca) Shakespeare and Youss are now together, the rest is sitting alone. The things I tried Tosca, Shake & Youss (Tosca attacked Youss, that's why she's alone) Tosca & Mozart (Tosca was scared of little brave Mozart) Shake, Youss & Mozart (Shakespeare chased Mozart. Mozart was scared) The only option I have left is Tosca & Shakespeare and Mozart & Youss. I'm now going to try this and hope this will work out (hope you get it now )
