Do two females in the same cage fight or is that only a worry with two males?

What? It's only a worry when you have a large group (especially with females) with too much space / toys or too little space. Males are generally more relaxed than females.

I don't want to sound rude, but it seems you have been asking alot of begginer question for someone who is breeding gerbils. You may want to hold off on breeding untill you have all the facts, including where your pups are going to go. I have found alot of people jump into the fun and end up having ALOT of gerbils they cannot place. I would suggest alot of reading to get you caught up. www.agsgerbils.org/Gerbil_Care_Handbook/index.htmlwww.gerbils.co.uk/www.kimsgerbils.com/gerbilinfo.htmlabcgerbils.com/And as for your question, gerbils are social creatures and need to be housed in pairs, otherwise they become depressed, and soemtimes more agressive. There are cases were a gerbil has decided it rather be on it's own when it will not bond to anyother gerbil, no matter the age or how long a split cage is done (I have 1 like this). Males 'can' be kept in larger groups then females, personally I had a de-clan with a group of three, but others keep up to five together without problems. You do however want to keep things familour with them, not moving toys around much and leaving some old bedding in when you clean. Larger female groups of over 3 can be problematic, as the females mature they become more territorial. Pairs of females are usually reccomended, as they are pretty easy to keep without problems. I keep 2 tanks of 3 females and they live happily together. Now keeping 2 females and a male in a tank will cause problems, as some have kept 2 males and a female in a tank without many problems. Though if you do it this way you're not sure then who the father is, and it could end up with problems down the road. I personally do not reccomend it. You also do not want to keep 2 female gerbils that have litters together, if they are young it can 'sometimes' work out, but usually the one more dominant female will kill the other mothers babies and attack her as well. I have read this happening many times, and it is very sad.

LOL I just read my question! I really was out of it this morning I know that two of each can go together but if you add more there is more likely to be a problem. Man I feel stupid!

If theya re all 6 weeks and under you probably won't have a problem, otherwise no you cannot add a gerbil(s) to a pair of bonded gerbils. They will see the new gerbil as an inturder and kill it.
