I have a few questions on introducing my two Females:
(I'll try to be very descriptive and not leave anything out...)
Same story as with most people.... (I had two Females, one died, the other seemed loney and depressed, So I got another Female. The older one (Alice) is almost a year old I believe, and the new one (Amy) is very young, not mature) I had them in the split cage for about four days and they never tried to fight through the divider or nip at each other. Whenever they were both by the divider they would only sniff each others noses, they both seemed to have a strong interest in gnawing through the bars though.... Since they seemed to get along for four days in a row, I put on my leather gloves, and took out the divider. They seemed quite skiddish, they would both stand there not moving and then Alice would sprint to Amy and "nudge" her nose into Amy's side (kind of hard too ). Amy would kind of "push" Alice off with her paws. They did a lot of sprinting and "nudging". Also, Alice would do this weird thing where she would stand up really tall and lean into Amy...
Another thing they did was Amy would be perfectly still, Alice would come over and nudge Amy, then they would both be really still until one moved again, this seemed to freak them out and they would dart after each other (Are they chasing in a mean way? Or just curious? ). Then one time, Alice was nudging Amy and Amy bounced into the air and they both ran around. I believe this is a sign of fighting so I put the divider back in the cage.
I have never introduced Gerbils before and don't know what is considered ok, and what is aggresive signs... Does it sound like they were fighting?
Any tips and/or tricks to help them along?
Thanks.
