One of my gerbils is going bald on the end of her nose, She can't be rubbing her nose on bars because they live in a tank. She also very with drawn and would come out, I wondered if her sister could have something to do with. And could anyone recommend anything?

could be an allergy perhaps?? does her nose look red and sore too? have you put anything new in the tank?? if so, then she probably has an allergy to her bedding or the new thing in the tank... or, her sister could be 'power-grooming' (<<*very* technical term that) her. ie she is grooming her sister so much, that her fur is falling out this cannot be stopped really, you just have to hope that she stops it by herself >_< lol OR she could've just been digging too much and has got a sore nose from that

yeah my gerbil had that from gnawing on cage bars but if you've got a tank...? maybe your bedding material is too coarse or sharp. my gerbil had an eye infection but we switched to aspen and it cleared up.

My gerbil had this problem once. The vet told me it resulted from stress. Apparently some gerbils, when anxious or upset, get runny noses that look almost like nosebleeds. Mucus dripping from the nose irritates the skin around the snout, causing hair to drop out. The baldness is entirely temporary: as soon as the stressors in his environment disappear, his runny nose dries up and his hair grows back. Has anything disrupted your gerbil's schedule, or added noise, light, commotion, etc. to his day? But since it your gerbil doesn't appear to have a runny nose, this might not be the case.
