Can anyone show me pictures of what they house their gerbils in? I'm interested in purchasing gerbils, but first i'd want to figure out a cage/tank setup. I know cages aren't the best things as gerbils like to dig and they can hurt their noses on the bars. I was thinking about buying alarge plastic storage tub and cutting a whole in the top for a wire lid.. can people show me how they house their gerbils with pictures?

Queenie, How did you put in the *link* to the other set up thread? I can't figure it out.

First you go to the thread that you are interested in linking to. Once you are on that page, copy the url from the address bar. Then you return to the post where you want to show the link. Hit reply to post, then press this button . That will insert " ". Paste the copied url from the other post between the two sets of brackets.

And when you click with your right mouse on one of the links, you can copy the link too. (when it does not show the url, but for example 'Housing, Accessoires, Bedding, and Toys'.)

Not the best arrangment possible, but my gerbils like it. There is a huge mess of shavings on the floor when I first clean their cage. They like to make piles here and there in certains areas all the time, so after they do that I just sweap or vacume the area and good to go till next cleaning time.

HI Jen *Waves* I know you from the Fancy rats forum... he he We keep all our gerbils in "Duna" Style plastic cages and they have served us well.. Just make sure you have a bottle in the hole at all times (expect when filling of course) if gerbils can get there teeth into it, it is possible for them to chew their way out.. More ideal but not always practical is a cheap fish tank This one only cost us about £16 from Focus do it all and houses my two Bushy tailed jirds. Andrea

Here's the tank for my pair of gerbils. It's a 20L aquarium that I found at a thrift store for $20 with the screen lid included. They love digging tunnels and running through the tubes. I give them some shredded paper and hay and they make a nest with it. They used to have a timber hideaway, but they chewed it up! You can see their nest in the right rear corner. ;D

Two gerbils need at least a ten gallon space.
