I have one pair of my gerbils in a ten gallon tank right now and I would love for them to have more space to run around. I have two pairs in 20 gal tanks and my last pair in a 30 gal. I was thinking of joining my two 10 gallons using some sort of Habitrail piping. I am not sure though. Does anyone have ideas for joining two tanks in a way that the gerbs can't chew through? I worry that the gerbs in the 10 gal are going to get jealous .

That is how two of my tanks were joined together. The tub was from plastic but they didn't chew inside (they are not able I think), and at the end there were metal rings to prevent chewing. They have lived for more than a year that way. In the windows at the sides someone made holes for me for the tube. It was from plexiglass, I'm not sure if is can be done with real glass.

Do you know what type of plastic the tube is made from or where you bought it? I think that plastic tubing would be better than commerially-available habitrail (way less $$). Is the tubing flexible? Do they get a good enough grip on the tubing to move easily from tank to tank? I'm thinking I could do the tubing thing through the top of the tank because it's sides are glass, not plastic. But how would they get up to the tubing in the ceiling? Maybe I could make some sort of step or perch ?

The tube was made from a drainage tube (my uncle had one). It is indeed flexible and has ribs, so your gerbils will have grib!
