What is the difference between a gerbil vet and a "normal" vet? Is it just that they specialize in gerbils and small rodents?

there are no specialist gerbil vets that I know of but some vets specialise in small animals. My own Vet, Andy, kept gerbils himself once up on a time and is fascinated by mine. They are, as far I know, the only gerbils he treats and he was fascinated by the dipodils I took to him.
So I guess the answer is a gerbil vet would be one who has an interest gerbils and is prepared to learn more.

We find that some vets won't see small animals at all and "specialize", if you will, in Dogs, Cats and sometimes farm animals. Keith & Luana Green Mt. Gerbils
