OK, I took a ride to the health food grocery store today...never been. I saw TONS of seeds and nuts that I thought the gerbs would love. But I'm not sure they can have....here's what I ended up getting...
pine nuts soy nuts wheat kernels rolled oats (oatmeal) granola pumpkin seeds
None of them are salted. What I did was mix a handful or so of each with their kaytee supreme hamster/gerbil diet. Does this sound like a healthy mixture? I want them to have variety, but I also don't want to make them all fat and unhealthy.
What about some of the other stuff at the health store...barley? dried peas?

The gerbil mix that I make contains split peas, wheat, rolled oats and barley, so I *know* that those can be part of a balanced diet. Both the soy nuts and pine nuts should be fine. I would not feed granola because it is high in sugar.

Oh, I forgot about the pumpkin seeds. I've tried them with my gerbils and they didn't like them .
