About 4 years ago I came home and noticed one of my gerbils couldn't crack a sunflower or eat, and had lost some weight. Turns out one of her front teeth was chipped off almost to the root. I didn't know what to give her, I tried bread soaked in skim milk (couldn't get kitten milk replacement) but she wasn't a big fan of that. I ended up grinding up some of the softer seeds and that worked pretty well. I also let her drink applesauce from my hand, because that was the only soft food I could think of at the time, and she really loved it, so I figured it was ok because at least I was able to get her to eat something, but I was later told applesauce is unhealthy for gerbils:-/. The only info I could find on the internet was how to prevent this from happening, but not how to take care of the gerbil once it had already happened(ie: NGS page). She recovered but it took 3 1/2 weeks, I think that's longer then usual.

oh thats sad what happened to your gerbils! The only treats my female gerbil will eat is raisins and sometimes she doesnt even like them. I think she does it on purpose just to annoy me lol ;D Have you noticed how expensive even little tiny treats are in shops? Im sure they should be cheaper .....oh well anything to keep thme happy!

Yeah, it scared me a lot, I'm just glad it's only happened once.
Treats are really expensive where we are too. Has anyone ever had a cliff bar? Kaytee is selling somthing for the first time in our area that kind of looks the same(except for gerbils, lol), they have 4 different flavors too, like peanut butter, and bannana, and the price isn't quite as bad as most treats.
