Hi, Gerbil loving folks, I`m new on the forum, and am back into having gerbils after a decade or so of not having any. I now have a nice pair of Burmese, who bred the day I bought them. They made love not war... beginner`s luck?? They had four babies, born January 7th, who are coloring out now. One is white, one is Siamese, the other two are Burmese. Mom and Dad are good parents, and I`m really enjoying them. They are soooo cute!! I also raise pedigreed cavies, (American Satins), and have a canary, a pair of Society finches, and 2 Betta fish. I am glad to be owned by a fawn Pug, Lacy, who has me very well-trained! That is my family nowadays, as my four kids are grown and gone, and I`m now divorced, so I`m alone. I live in Utah. I`m a genealogist, but am disabled, so I`m home most of the time. My question for you all: is it good to feed hay and fresh veggies to gerbils? I have them here for the piggies, so if it is good for the little guys, as I call `em, I`d be glad to give it to them. Thanks, Marshalee

Hi Marshalee, welcome to the forum ;D
Hay and fresh veggies are great for gerbils- alfalfa and timothy hay, and their are a lot of veggies they can have, green is usually better (except for vegetables with a lot of water, like lettuce). Most fruits (no citrus) they love to. You can also give your mother gerbil mealworms, peanuts, solid kitten food.
Just curious, but are you sure one of the pups is siamese? If mom and dad are both burmese you could have white(PEW) and burmese pups, but only siamese pups if one parent was a siamese, or carried ch.
My friend used to have a pair of guinea pigs- they were really cute. How many cavies do you have right now?
Congrats on your new babies!! Do you have any pic's? I'd love to see them- and your cavies to. ;D

Marsha;ee, welcome to the forum!
Hay is always good! Fresh veggies are good too, but not too much, as they contain a lot of water.

Hey Marsh, Welcome to the Forum. It is a great place to be . I give mine fresh fruits and veggies to suppliment thier regular diet. Mine like Broccoli, carrots, blueberries, apple, pear, yogurt. I try to give them at least once a week. You can give them fresh stuff up to every other day as long as thier feces is not runny. I have a houseful of animals also. They are great companions.
