Avacadoes are actually a potent cardiac toxin to most small animals and birds. It can also be toxic to people, but the average adult would have to eat something like five pounds of avacado to experience toxicity, so I have no qualms about loading up on the guacamole As for citrus fruits, I'm not sure, but I hihgly doubt it. Citrus fruits are a part of many zoo animals diets as a good source of vitamin C (although the only animals who need vit. C supplemented in their diets are primates and guinea pigs, all other animals can make their own in their bodies). I'm a veterinary student and I just finished my toxicoloogy class, so I'm sure if citrus fruits were toxic, we would've covered them! Hope this helps!

I get the impression that rodents generally aren't keen on citrus. BUT rats should not have orange peel or any derivative of it as orange oil can stimulate a certain cancer in the males!!!! (not in females though)

In dogs, I think Avacado is OK in moderation. With any type of food or plant, it's all about the amount that they eat. Any mammal can eat too much and get sick. Garlic and onions are also toxic to dogs, but for a different reason. Sorry to get off topic, but I really didn't know that before I started vet school
