It is perfectly fine to give gerbils fruit as treats every now and again. Remember that gerbils come from the desert and therefore don't need a lot of water in their diet; too much fruit may give them diarrhea. There's a good thread on the subject here where you can get more info on good and bad treats for gerbils. -Megan

Few things I couldn't see on the list. Mine love strawberries , grapes(I peel them so no worry of pesticides etc) and the dried papaya that you get for budgies.
Also I believe that i am right in saying that gerbils don't have nearly as much problems with diarrhea as other rodents just don't really over do it.

I give mine grapes, they love them too. I've given strawberries & pear too. Mine could care less about lettus which is ok, it's not very nutritional anyways. I make sure i wash everything, I mean i wouldn't eat it if it wasn't washed! (ick) lol
I've never had a problem with Diarrhea in any of my small pets, i give them fresh veggies more during the hot summer then winter.

I would stay away from the "bad food items" list on teh other thread I pointed you to. Some common ones are onion, garlic, avacado, and chocolate.

Just crazy, has to make ya think what we're putting into our bodies that's for sure.

A lot of the reason that they're bad to other animals is they are able to eat a whole lot more of them compared to their body size. With the onion and its cousins, they're a whole lot more toxic if consumed raw, but most people don't sit around eating a whole bowl of raw onions! We have a few in a salad or on a burger, etc... What makes the toxin is the dose!

Hey Ellori,
Mine like carrots, broccoli, apples, blueberries, & strawberries. The boys like the veggies and the girls like the fruits.
