Hi everyone, Sadly one of my gerbils has been having these sudden problems. She is around 3 years old, is normally very energetic, has a very young nature, quite easily scared. Today he has completly changed, he wasn't waking up and when he did he stayed in his nest, eyes not fully opened, and his heart was beating very hard, his whole body was moving at each beat. He's slow, and isn't eating treats or vegetables I give to him. Thank you !

It sounds like he's either just slowing down in his old age, or possibly getting ready to pass away. There's not much you can do other than make sure he is comfortable. You could take him to a vet, but without any obvious symptoms, that may not be much help.

He sounds like he's about to pass.
Too bad, just try to think about happy things, and make him as comfortable as he can, and make sure it's quiet, so he can feel good.

Thank you so much for the answers It's really sad, he was the last of 5 offsprings who all had strange unexpected deaths, one of which had lost his leg to what could have been a mouse in the house that got into the cage and had a fight with. The dad outlived all of them and is doing great so I have him left to take care of Thank you again !

I just saw that both eyes are closed and have blood on the edge ..... Bloody eyes ? What does that mean ? It's overwhelming how from one day to the next he completly changed.
