Hello:
I am gathering seeds and grains to mix my own food and most ask for a high quality bird seed mix...most though seem to cantain some "thistle" some know it as "niger"...I know this is high in fat but in general is it okay for gerbils to eat....

You just want to make sure you freeze anything you gather from outdoors for a number of days to kill any mites that might be on them. You don't want an infestation on your gerbs.

oops! sorry, great advice but I mean't that the thistle is in the bird seed mixture...no I am not gathering it form outside..bad choice of words...I just had not seen thistle mentioned for gerbils and did not know if it was safe for them or not.......
